Francesco Saverio Alessio official web site

Furthermore of the collective imaginary world, the Mediterranean is covered each day by rivers of migrants: in my hometown San Giovanni in Fiore, after the Christmas holidays at least other one hundred persons have emigrated; in other regions, here in Italy and abroad, in the Mediterranean basin and in other continents. Single or families, young and not so young people, intellectuals and not.

The migrations of entire populations, from whichever geographic place of the Earth to other places, the advent in the last decade of Internet, the tendency to the Euro-Mediterranean enlarging of Europe, the infinity of cultural interlaces, in synthesis the age of intercultural and global communication, push me more and more towards the search of my roots, from Calabria’s to the Mediterranean, to the common roots of every man.

"We are all a little ‘under construction’" wrote me some time ago the Florensian poetess of West Virginia Rina Ferrarelli; she too, like me, in search of these roots.

In a slow but continuous construction, this web site is like a short summary of an extensive production in more fields of the art expression, some still cultivated day for day, and other left, at least in this moment. Is a general picture of my artistic production: from the rendering in 3D to the musical songs for Acquaraggia; from geographical and architectonic photos to the production such as interior designer, to CAD (Computer Aided design) for architecture and something about poetry, anthropology and literature. Fluctuations due to the time, to the growth, to the search of a more personal expression; due to new priorities that interposes, changes of habits, selection of the activities to which dedicate his own time.

A summary in a bottle that sails on the sea of Internet.

My hometown

San Giovanni in Fiore was founded in the XIII century around the Florens Abbey which was built by Joachim of Flora (Gioacchino da Fiore), a medieval mystic and Cistercian monk, who wrote a lot of books about the prophecy of the salvation of the human race; for which he was very renowend even that time.

Joachim of Flora

Joachim of Flora decided to dedicate himself to Biblical study, in particular the hidden meaning of the Scriptures. He proposed the creation of a new and stricter order which was called Florens after the name of the place where he believed the salvation of the human race would start. Pope Celestine III approved his proposal and so they started building the Abbey in 1198 in Sila.

Florensian Abbey

The construction of the abbey was approved by Queen Constance of Hauteville after a Joachim's visit in her court at Palermo. In 1215 a site not far from the previous one was chosen, in an area that had been settled in the early Middle Ages by a Lombard military contingent and then by the Byzantines, near the Neto river valley.

Rina Ferrarelli - Poetry

Rina Ferrarelli was born in San Giovanni in Fiore but she emigrated to USA vhen she was fifteen.

Peppino Oliverio (Jazzu) - Poetry

In february, San Giovanni in Fiore celebrates the annual carnival with street performances of le ‘frassie’. Frassie are burlesque songs and recitals in dialect satirizing over local and national event.

A story of emigration: San Giovanni in Fiore

Faced with bouts of extreme poverty, thousands of calabrians left for the US in the first wave of migration between the late 1800s and the first decades of the 1900s.

Computer-Aided Design - Cad

The objects designed are reflected in the water exactly in the hypothesis of glacier-melting and are elaborated with CAD software. CAD, or computer-aided design and drafting (CADD), is technology for design and technical documentation, which replaces manual drafting with an automated process.

The Global Village Square

Concept: The Global Village Square (GVS) is a public service (free of charge) meant to establish permanent links by videoconferencing between Toronto and other cities of the world. It will allow people to meet across land and sea, but as if they were in a common ground.

Olympia

The sacred precinct, named the Altis, was primarily dedicated to Zeus, although other gods were worshipped there. The games conducted in his name drew visitors from all over the Greek world as one of a group of such "Panhellenic" centres, which helped to build the identity of the ancient Greeks as a nation.
